Born Michael Rezso Relato Zahorak IV in Manila, Philippines, the multi-instrumental and international award-winning musician grew up in Richmond Hill, Ontario earning a profound education from Berklee College of Music in songwriting, Royal Conservatory of Music in piano performance, Cleveland Institute of Music in piano performance and literature, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in piano performance and piano pedagogy, and extensive studies in Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien [Vienna, Austria] and at Herberger School of Fine Arts both in piano performance.

Michael’s short list of collaborations include Glenn Caldwell (orchestrator for Stevie Wonder’s National Wonder Tour), Angelin Chang (Grammy-Award winning pianist), and Natasha Patamapongs (Mellow Motif’s vocalist/producer - Thailand’s No. 1 jazz sextet). As a Los Angeles-based film composer, Michael has numerous short films, two web-series, one feature film, a branded theatrical logo, and Apple and Calvin Klein commercials under his belt working alongside Hans Zimmer, award-winning director James Popiden [TOUCH], and director/actress Julia Rees [THE GERMERICANS] nominated ‘ 2014 Best Sketch Comedy’. Toronto-based film accolades, which include COME BACK TO US received the 'Official Selection' at the 2016 Ozark Shorts Film Festival.

 

Within the world of musical theatre, Michael's select notable production credits as music director, composer, conductor, and keyboardist include: KILL SISTER, KILL! A MUSICAL [2015 New York International Fringe Festival]; THE STAGE MANAGER'S GUIDE TO DATING ASSHOLES [2016 Toronto Fringe Festival & 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival]; FOOTLOOSE: THE MUSICAL [2017 Steppin' Out Theatrical Productions]; and JUNIE B. JONES: THE MUSICAL - touring show [2019 Electric Moon Theatre Company].

Michael resides in Toronto, and is faculty at Arcadia Academy of Music, and Electric Moon Theatre Company.
